Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H. E. Mr. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, President of Mali

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, President of Mali. They discussed the environmental, security and economic challenges facing Mali and the limited resources and capacity that Mali, as a landlocked country, had to address these challenges. President Keita underscored the importance of the support of the international community and particularly that of the United Nations (UN). He extended Mali’s full support and assured President Ashe of Mali’s cooperation during the sixty-eighth session.
The President of the General Assembly congratulated President Keita on his election. He took note of the challenges Mali faces including the environmental pressures of desertification and the economic pressures impacting society. He encouraged Mali to share its experience with the UN through active participation in the General Assembly during the sixty-eighth session.
