PGA John W Ashe with H.E. Mr. Remigiusz Achilles HenczelThe President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Remigiusz Achilles Henczel, President of the Human Rights Council (HRC). The two discussed the initiatives of the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Human Rights Council session in March 2014.

President Henczel noted efforts to enhance the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). President Henczel advised President Ashe that a Trust Fund to enable participation and capacity building of LDCs and SIDS in the HRC would soon be operational.

The two Presidents discussed issues relating to the HRC budget and those surrounding preparations of national reports for the UPR process and President Ashe welcomed the invitation of President Henczel to participate in the forthcoming session of the Human Rights Council.
