Readout of the President Ashe meets with Mr. Doug Cress, Programme Coordinator, Great Apes Survival Partnerships (GRASP)

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe met today with Mr. Doug Cress, Programme Coordinator, Great Apes Survival Partnerships (GRASP).

Mr. Cress expressed his desire for the support of the UN General Assembly to the cause of great apes survival. He expressed the need for balance in conservation and human growth and stressed the importance of the use of technology and finance to help further this cause.

Mr. Cress informed of proposed efforts to have the United Nations establish an international day on great apes by 2014 and asked for the guidance of the President in this regard. President Ashe commended this effort of the GRASP and sought to explain the process by which such a day might be established.
