Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Tarja Kaarina Halonen, Former President of the Republic of Finland

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Ms. Tarja Kaarina Halonen, Former President of the Republic of Finland. Discussions focused on the High-Level Task Force for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
President Halonen requested the further promotion of the sexual and reproductive rights of women, with a human rights perspective. She noted the importance of advancing gender equality, the empowerment of women, youth, and civil society through information services and awareness building within the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
President Ashe expressed the hope that Finland would be actively engaged in the High-level Events on the Contributions of Women, the Young and Civil Society and Human Rights and the Rule of Law in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, to be held during the sixty-eighth session.
