The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba. Discussions began with an informative exchange on Cuba’s objectives as President Pro Tempore of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC). The Foreign Minister noted that the CELAC had recently adopted a Communique in support of President Ashe. He also extended his government’s own support to the President of the General Assembly and assured him of Cuba’s constructive contribution to the multilateral agenda.
The Foreign Minister apprised President Ashe of Cuba’s annual resolution before the General Assembly on the Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, which will be considered on 29 October 2013 and noted recent developments relating to Cuba’s bilateral relationship with the United States.
President Ashe expressed his gratitude for Cuba’s support to his Office and for the valuable input of the Cuban delegation to the work of the General Assembly. He looked forward to Cuba’s continued active engagement during the sixty-eighth session.
