The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with the Council of Presidents of the General Assembly. Members of the Council exchanged views and insights on a range of issues from UN Reform to development initiatives on Water and Sanitation.
The Council expressed interest in receiving the support of President Ashe on the furthering of efforts to obtain Observer Status at the UN through the General Assembly during the Sixty-eighth session. The Council noted that the process of UN Reform both at the General Assembly and the Security Council would benefit from their collective expertise, experience and wisdom.
President Ashe offered a number of suggestions by which the Council may seek more participation and obtain further relevance in its work and status. He welcomed the interest of the Council and the opportunity to exchange views on relevant issues before the General Assembly and the United Nations.
