United Nations, New York, 06 November 2013
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Mr. Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). They discussed, inter alia, the common interests and values of the United Nations and the IOC, including the promotion of peace and understanding between peoples and nations
Mr. Bach expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the United Nations and the IOC, which he indicated has been underscored and heightened now that the IOC enjoys Observer status in the General Assembly. He noted that the status provides the IOC with yet another opportunity to offer its contributions toward improving the lives of the young and underprivileged; particularly by promoting education through sport.
President Ashe concurred with the view of the IOC President and conveyed to Mr. Bach his best wishes for his new undertaking as President of the IOC.
