President Ashe meets with H.E. Mr. Shinzō Abe Prime Minister of Japan

Tokyo, Japan, 3 April 2014
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, on the occasion of his official visit to Japan 1-4 April 2014.
During their exchange, the two discussed the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Security Council reform and climate change. The Prime Minister highlighted Japan's interest in human security and its priority for universal health coverage, enhancing the participation of women in society and the empowerment of women, as well as efforts focused on disaster risk reduction. The Prime Minister also addressed the importance Japan attaches to Security Council reform and for progress in the intergovernmental negotiations.
President Ashe congratulated the Prime Minister on his Government's accomplishments at home and abroad and encouraged Japan's leadership in supporting development, improving gender equality, building resilient societies and tackling climate change.
