President Ashe meets with Mr. Michael Moller, Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Acting Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Mr. Michael Moller, Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Acting Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament.
Mr. Moller updated President Ashe on progress in the execution of the Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP) the budget for which the General Assembly recently approved. He highlighted efforts toward making a more green, functional and iconic building that will further enhance the profile of the United Nations in Geneva and to the wider international community. He noted the support of Member States, the private sector and the Swiss authorities in the implementation of the SHP.
President Ashe and the Director-General discussed the increased visibility of the United Nations Office in Geneva in international affairs referencing Syria and Iran. They discussed the mutual relevance of the work of the United Nations Office in Geneva and that of the General Assembly. In addition he advised President Ashe of the orientation and briefing programme developed by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on the Post-2015 Development Agenda available to delegates in both New York and Geneva.
The Director-General informed of his efforts to provide more frequent briefings to high representatives of the United Nations as well as to provide a platform for such representatives and the diplomatic community in Geneva. He expressed his desire that such briefings could also occur between Geneva and New York. President Ashe welcomed this expression of interest. In turn, the Director-General also invited President Ashe to consider providing briefings to the diplomatic community in Geneva.
