President Ashe meets with H.E., Mr. Eladio Loizaga Caballero, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Paraguay

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E., Mr. Eladio Loizaga Caballero, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Paraguay.
The Foreign Minister informed President Ashe that Paraguay will host the 44th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) from June 3 to 5, 2014. In this regard, the Foreign Minister discussed the theme of the forthcoming OAS General Assembly relating to development and social inclusion. He extended an invitation to the President of the General Assembly to attend the opening of the Session.
The Foreign Minister and the President also discussed Paraguay's engagement in the region including in MERCOSUR and UNASUR as well as through bilateral relations with its neighbouring countries, particularly in the area of investment and cooperation. They also discussed the various processes underway in the General Assembly including the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, General Assembly Revitalization and Security Council Reform.
The Foreign Minister underscored the importance of special attention for landlocked developing countries in the new development framework, recalling that the ten-year review conference on the implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action: Addressing the Special Needs of Landlocked Developing Countries within a New Global Framework for Transit Transport Cooperation for Landlocked and Transit Developing Countries would be held in November. He also recalled the increasing importance of General Assembly Revitalization, especially in respect to the implementation of resolutions and the increasing complexity of Security Council Reform.
