President Ashe meets with H.E. Mr. Ja Song Nam, Permanent Representative of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the United Nations

President Ashe with H.E. Mr. Ja Song NamThe President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Ja Song Nam, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the United Nations.

Ambassador Ja presented an overview of his government's current priorities for improving the economic and living standards of the people in the country through the expansion of social services and infrastructure development. He also outlined steps that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is taking to improve relations with the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Ja and President Ashe further discussed the relevance of the national development policies of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the wider context of the President's overarching theme for the sixty-eighth session on Setting the Stage for the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The President invited the Government of Democratic People's Republic of Korea to participate in his forthcoming events on the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, with a view to sharing its national experience.

Ambassador Ja presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 28 February, 2014.
