President Ashe meets with H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey

President Ashe with H.E. Mr. Ahmet DavutoğluThe President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. Discussions covered the crises in Syria and Ukraine, climate change and the role and contributions of the UN and the international community in addressing such issues. In this light, the Foreign Minister underscored the need for an enhanced role of the General Assembly.

The Foreign Minister outlined the priorities of Turkey's current development strategy, including broadening its international humanitarian assistance, enhancing its economic development agenda, boosting international cooperation and building greater bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu recently met with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) prior to visiting the President of the General Assembly at UN Headquarters and extended an invitation to the President, a native of Antigua and Barbuda, to attend the Turkey-CARICOM Ministerial Meeting to be held on 10 May in Istanbul.
