The President of the General Assembly met today with Senator The Honourable Maxine Pamela Ometa McClean, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. They exchanged views on the International Year of Small Island Developing States and the upcoming Third International Conference on SIDS to be held in Samoa in September.
The Foreign Affairs Minister underscored the importance of involving the private sector, a collaboration that can generate numerous benefits and opportunities. She also stressed the potential of triangular cooperation among SIDS, noting that the Caribbean region has achieved a number of successes, including in the areas of coast protection and solar energy.
The President encouraged Barbados to share its experience and best practices. He mentioned the upcoming thematic debate on the Role of Partnerships and the high-level event on the contributions of North-South, South-South, Triangular Cooperation and ICT in the post-2015 Development agenda and invited Barbados to participate at the highest level.
