Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H.E., Mr. Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, Minister of External Relations of Brazil

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, Minister of External Relations of Brazil. Discussions covered the situation in Haiti, Security Council Reform and the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
As a Member of the Group of Friends of Haiti in New York (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Guatemala, Peru, Uruguay and the US), Brazil’s Foreign Minister expressed his view on the need for enhanced international engagement be focused not only on security aspects, but also on ways to help the Haitian people develop the country. He informed of his trip to Haiti on 26 November 2013, to visit the UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and to meet President Michel Martelly.
The Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction that President Ashe is in fact doing what he said he would do in his inaugural Statement as President of the General Assembly. The Brazilian Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the President on forming an Advisory Group, in an effort to advance progress on Security Council Reform. Finally, he commended the President’s active engagement toward the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
