Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State & Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State & Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In discussing the climate change agenda, the Minister indicated that action-oriented ideas and initiatives are important for the Government of the UAE, particularly in relation to mitigation, clean energy, and sustainable development. He underscored the energy-water-food security nexus and noted its importance for sustainable development.
The President reiterated the theme for the 68th Session of the General Assembly: The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage and outlined his six priority areas which will be highlighted by a series of High-level events and thematic debates during the session.
The Minister informed the PGA of the annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a platform for the promotion of sustainability initiatives throughout the Middle East and beyond. Next year, the Sustainability Week will take place from18 to 24 January 2014.
