Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Minister for Environment of Peru

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Minister for Environment of Peru.Discussions covered the status of the ongoing United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations, in Warsaw, Poland. They also exchanged views on how the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Change Summit, slated to be held on 23 September 2014,may contribute to the UNFCCC process and the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP-20) scheduled to be held in Lima, Peru, in December, 2014.
President Ashe noted the opportunity that would be presented by the first meeting of the United Nations Environment Assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme scheduled to take place in June 2014. President Ashe also highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential political impact of theUN Secretary-General’s Climate Change Summit as a means of enhancing the progress of the climate change negotiations leading up to the COP-20. The Minister expressed his determination to ensure that there would be a strong outcome at COP-20.
