Mr. Marcin Korolec, President of the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) / 9th Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to Kyoto Protocol (CMP9)

John Ashe with Marcin Korolec The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today, in Warsaw, with H.E. Mr.Marcin Korolec, President of the 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) / 9th Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to Kyoto Protocol (CMP9).

President Korolec updated President Ashe on the progress and key elements of the COP19/CMP9, as well as on developments on the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Finance. He noted that the Ministerial Dialogue will convene duringCOP19 to provide vision and strategy on how to make further progress on the mobilization of long-term financing for climate change.

President Korolec outlined the possibility of having a decision on the issue of Loss and Damage. President Ashe noted that the matter of Loss and Damage is one of critical importance for many of the Parties. President Korolec also referenced President Ashe’s longstanding expertise within the UNFCCC and its processes and expressed the hope that the negotiators at the Conference would have an attitude of compromise so that much-needed progress could be achieved.

President Korolec explained recent, internal changes in the Polish Government, and reassured of Poland’s continued leadership in forging a positive outcome from this COP meeting in Warsaw
