President Ashe meets with, H.E. Mr. Evo Morales Ayma, President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Evo Morales Ayma, President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia on the occasion of Bolivia’s assumption of the chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China.
President Morales sought the support of the President of the General Assembly to the Bolivian delegation in its capacity as Chair and to the wider Group. He informed President Ashe of his intention to convene a Summit on 15 June 2014 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the G-77 and China. President Ashe congratulated President Morales for taking on the Chairmanship of the G-77 and China and assured him of his office’s full support. He expressed his gratitude for and acceptance of the invitation to participate in the Summit. President Ashe underscored the importance of the timing of Bolivia’s Chairmanship which coincides with preparations for the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda as well as with the elaboration of a legally binding climate change agreement to be concluded by 2015.
President Morales welcomed the support and encouragement of the President of the General Assembly and took the opportunity to also reaffirm Bolivia’s firm commitment to the reform of the United Nations.
