President Ashe meets with Mr. Driss El Yazami, President of the Human Rights Council of Morocco

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Mr. Driss El Yazami, President of the Human Rights Council during his official visit to Morocco.
Mr. El Yazmini outlined the country’s challenges in regards to human rights, which include implementing the provisions of the new Constitution and ensuring that the Council’s recommendations are taken on board by the Government. Mr. El Yazmini spoke about some issues that his organizations is now focused on, including abolishing torture, ensuring decent condition in prisons and child protection centers, and reducing incidences of gender-based violence. He also shared some of his country’s new publications on justice.
The President commended Mr. El Yazmini for the impressive undertakings of his relatively young organization and encouraged continued efforts to improve human rights at home and serve as an example in the region.
