President Ashe meets with H.E. Mr. Nizar Baraka, President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) of Morocco

Rabat, Morocco 6 January 2014

H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe with Mr. Nizar BarakaThe President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Mr. Nizar Baraka, the President of Morocco’s Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) on an official visit.

Mr. Baraka shared the country’s development programmes, strategies and goals, specifically efforts to implement the provisions of the new Constitution and to accelerate reform. Mr. Baraka explained that under these two larger goals, there are many specific objectives such as meeting fiscal targets, stabilizing social protection, reforming the pension system, increasing the percentage of renewable energy, and promoting efforts toward water conservation and recycling.

The President commended Mr. Baraka on his country’s ambitious development plans and regional leadership, and encouraged further efforts toward sustainable development and increased South-South Cooperation.
