THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

President of the General Assembly meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo


The President of the General Assembly Mr. Vuk Jeremić met today with H.E. Mr. Basile Ikouebe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo.

The President presented his priorities for the 67th Session, as well as the main theme of the presidency, “Bringing about adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations by peaceful means.”

They discussed the President’s initiative to set up a consultative mechanism between the General Assembly and the Group of 20 (G-20). The President noted the need to hold a high-level debate for that purpose.

They discussed the progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, the post-2015 development agenda and the follow-up to Rio+20.

They stressed the need to revitalize the work of the General Assembly.

The President expressed his willingness to devote special energy to the issues of the African continent.
