THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

President of the General Assembly meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba


The President of the General Assembly Mr. Vuk Jeremić met today with H.E. Mr. Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

They discussed the President’s initiative to set up a consultative mechanism between the General Assembly and the Group of 20 (G-20).

They exchanged views on the revitalization of the General Assembly and nuclear disarmament.

They discussed the impact of the economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba, and the resolution on which the General Assembly was due to vote on today.

They also discussed the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the Caribbean region. The President expressed his sympathy to the victims of the hurricane and offered his support to the states which bore the brunt of the natural disaster.

The President noted that he looks forward to working with Cuba as a Chair of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in 2013.
