President Jeremić meets with Pope Francis in Rome
President of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremic met today with H. H. Pope Francis in the Vatican.
They agreed that there is an urgent need to end the long lasting misery and suffering of the people of Syria, caused by the conflict which continues to represent a humanitarian crisis of major proportions.
They discussed what can be done to accelerate work to reduce poverty and advance economic development during the meeting. The President informed the Pope about his intentions to organize a high level thematic debate on July 8th that would examine mechanisms of reducing social inequality.
They further discussed the need to advance social justice and accelerate work to meet the Millennium Development Goals and to also discussed ways to progress the new Sustainable Development Goals. President therefore presented the progress in drafting of the sustainable development goals and especially emphasized the necessity of having a unified and coherent post 2015 development agenda.
