Death of Mohammed Zillur Rahman, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh

 

NEW YORK (21 March 2013) – The President of the General Assembly is deeply saddened by the death of H.E. Mr. Mohammed Zillur Rahman, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.  He offers his sincerest condolences to the family of the President, the Government and the people of Bangladesh.

President Rahman was one of the most respected leaders of his country and the region. Throughout his political career, he remained committed to the democratization of Bangladesh, to social justice, and to improving the lives of his nation’s citizens, especially the most underprivileged.

The President of the General Assembly renews his commitment to continue working with the representatives of the Government of Bangladesh at the General Assembly to strengthen the three pillars of the United Nations: peace and security, human rights and development.
