Before assuming the position of Chief de Cabinet to the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Ponoš was Assistant Foreign Minister of Serbia responsible for bilateral affairs. He joined the Serbian foreign ministry in 2010, after he ended his professional military career.
Mr. Ponoš is retired 3-star general and former Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces. During his mandate, a comprehensive reform program was undertaken, resulting in the transformation of the Serbian Armed Forces. He also served as Deputy Chief of General Staff and Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia. In the period 2005-2006, Mr. Ponoš was the Chairman of the Multinational Advisory Group of the Regional Arms Control Verification and Implementation Assistance Centre (RACVIAC) in Zagreb.
Mr. Ponoš holds a master’s degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Belgrade University. His education also includes postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Defense Studies in London, and security and defense courses at the Geneva Center for Security Policy as well as at the George Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
