H.E. Mr. Dejan Šahović was appointed to serve in the Cabinet of H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremic, President of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly, as a Senior Special Adviser in August 2012. Most recently, Ambassador Šahović served as Ambassador of Serbia to Hungary (2008-2012) and Assistant Minister – Directorate General of Multilateral Affairs with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia (2006-2008), during which period he also held a position of the National Coordinator of the Serbian Presidency over the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers (2007).
Ambassador Šahović has extensive United Nations experience obtained during his mandates as Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the United Nations in New York (2001-2004) and Permanent Representative of Serbia and Montenegro to the United Nations in Geneva (2004-2006). He also worked as a junior diplomat with the Permanent Mission of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the United Nations in New York (1987-1991). During the 1990s, Ambassador Šahović worked for United Nations missions in Cambodia, South Africa and Tajikistan. He started his diplomatic career in 1986 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the SFR of Yugoslavia. Educated in Belgrade, Ambassador Sahovic holds a law degree.
