United Nations, New York
13 July 2012
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, strongly condemns the reported mass killings in the village of Tremseh, near Hama in Syria.
President Al-Nasser urgently calls on the Syrian authorities to provide the necessary protection and security to the UN observers in Syria for them to visit the site of the reported atrocities so as to verify the reports.
The confirmed use of heavy weaponry and helicopters by Government forces in this populated area is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Government’s commitments made under the Six Point Plan put forward by the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States, H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan.
President Al-Nasser reiterates his call on the Syrian Government and all other parties to cease all military operations and violent attacks immediately. He further urges them strongly to respect and implement all the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
