Welcome to the United Nations. It's your world.

CLOSING REMARKS AT THE INFORMAL PLENARY MEETING ON THE G20 SUMMIT

New York, 10 November 2011

His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations,
Ambassador Jean-David Lévitte,
Ambassador Lourdes Aranda,
Excellencies,
Distinguished delegates,
Ladies and gentlemen,

We have come to the end of this informal meeting.

My thanks to you for your constructive participation.

I intend to continue the practice of convening informal meetings of the General Assembly before and after the Los Cabos Summit, next June.
As usual, I will count on the participation of the Secretary-General and of high representatives of the G-20 leadership.

In the meanwhile, the General Assembly will continue to actively contribute to tackling global economic challenges.

I appreciate the efforts currently being made by delegations in the Second Committee.

On 7 and 8 December, there will be the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development.

Also in December, I will attend the South-South Expo in Rome, where many successes in South-South Cooperation will be showcased.

I am aware that an important report by the Secretary-General on Global Governance is in the pipeline. We will eventually schedule a meeting to discuss its findings and recommendations.

Next year, there will be very significant conferences dealing with development issues, such as Thirteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII) and Rio+20.

I encourage every delegation to actively engage in this work. In all these events and processes, we must keep in mind the interests of the most vulnerable countries and persons.

The world needs the contribution of the General Assembly, with its unparalleled legitimacy and universality.

The General Assembly, in turn, needs your collaboration, in order to be able to effectively respond to situations of common concern to the international community.

Therefore, I very much welcome the constructive exchange of views that took place today. I would like to once again thank Their Excellencies Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Ambassador Lévitte and Ambassador Aranda for their important contributions to the work of our Assembly.

Thank you.
