THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

President of the General Assembly meets with H.E Mr. Kim Hwang-sik, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea


President of the General Assembly, H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser met on Monday, with H.E. Mr. Kim Hwang-sik, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea. They exchanged views on a wide range of issues including: sustainable development, disarmament, mediation as a peaceful means in the settlement of disputes, UN Reform and the latest developments in the Middle East and Arab region.

President Al-Nasser expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Hwang-sik for the efforts of the Republic of Korea in strengthening the crucial work being done on nuclear security. He welcomed preparations being made by the Government of the Republic of Korea to host the 2012 Nuclear Safety and Security Summit in Seoul. The President of the General Assembly recalled his statement during the High-Level Meeting on Nuclear Safety and Security last September that the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit will play a crucial role in galvanizing international action on the issue.

During his three-day official visit to the Republic of Korea, President Al-Nasser also held talks on Tuesday with H.E. Mr. Kim Sung-hwan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They discussed the main issues on the agenda of the 66th session of the General Assembly, including Mediation, Disarmament, Rio+20 and developments in the Middle East and the Arab World.

And held talks with the Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs



President Al-Nasser also attended a high-level luncheon hosted by Ambassador Sun Joun-yung, Vice President and CEO of the UN Association of the Republic of Korea, which was also attended by other senior Korean officials. They discussed the activities of the Association and ways it can help promote the work of the UN.

The President of the General Assembly was also the main guest at a high-level dinner hosted by Deputy Minister for Multilateral & Global Affairs, Ambassador Kim Bong-hyun. They exchanged views on issues of mutual interest to the Republic of Korea and the UN.
