President of the General Assembly meets with Italy’s Minister of Justice
On the sidelines of the High-level Meeting on Security in Central America as a Regional and Global challenge the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, met yesterday with Mrs. Paola Severino, Italy’s Minister of Justice.
Their discussions touched on efforts being made by the UN and the International Community in combating transnational organized crime and drug trafficking, which are threats to economic development.
President Al-Nasser commended the efforts undertaken by the Government of Italy in fighting organised crime.
The President of the General Assembly stressed the adverse linkages between international crimes and sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of the upcoming Thematic Debate on Drugs and Crime as a Threat to Development that he intends to convene on June 26th in New York as it will witness the launch of the first report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Meets with the H.E. the Foreign Minister of Honduras
President Al-Nasser also held talks with H.E. Arturo Corrales Alvarez, Foreign Minister of Honduras.
They exchanged views on a range of issues, including the participation of Honduras in today’s High Level event on Security in Central America as a Regional and Global Challenge. They further discussed efforts by the Government of Honduras to fight organized crime and drug trafficking.
The discussions also touched on the Palestinian issue and the June 26th Thematic Debate of Drugs and Crime as a Threat to Development to be convened by the President of the General Assembly.
