On the Situation Between South Sudan and Sudan
The President of the General Assembly , H.E Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, has expressed grave concern over the escalation of armed conflict between Sudan and South Sudan.
He calls upon both parties to exercise maximum restraint and for each to respect the territorial integrity of the other.
President Al-Nasser notes with alarm the military occupation of Heglig by the armed forces of the Republic of South Sudan, and calls for their immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
The President calls upon the Governments of South Sudan and Sudan to urgently and peacefully resolve the fundamental issues of security and border management through dialogue. He urges both parties to constructively engage in the ongoing mediation efforts of the African Union.
