President of the General Assembly meets with Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on the Syrian crisis
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, today met with the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States, H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, in Geneva, on the Syrian crisis.
They discussed, in particular, the implementation of Mr. Annan’s Six-Point Plan, just ahead of the Joint Special Envoy’s briefing to the Security Council today.
President Al-Nasser stressed the urgent need to make progress on the issues, based on the resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council, through which the UN has spoken with one voice regarding the Syrian crisis.
The President of the General Assembly reiterated his welcome and support for the efforts of the Joint Special Envoy and urged more international support from Member States for Mr. Annan’s endeavours.
President Al-Nasser stressed the critical need for the Syrian authorities and other parties to cooperate fully with Mr. Annan and his team for the full implementation of the General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, in order to resolve the crisis and help all Syrians restore peace, stability and unity to the country.
