Official visit of President Deiss to Panama
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, arrived today in Panama for an official visit. He met with the President of the Republic of Panama, H.E. Mr. Ricardo Martinelli and the Vice President and Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Juan Carlos Varela.
Both Presidents discussed about the presence of the United Nations in Panama. President Deiss thanked President Martinelli for the strong support Panama provides to the strengthening of the United Nations’ regional hub in the country.
With Vice President Varela, President Deiss also discussed the major priorities of the sixty-fifth session of the General Assembly.
The President of the General Assembly also met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and members of the United Nations Country Team as well as regional heads of United Nations agencies.
In the evening, President Deiss delivered a key-note speech at the Inaugural Ceremony of the 124th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
