President Deiss official visit to Russia
H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, President of the General Assembly, met today in Moscow with H.E. Mr. Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, Foreign Affairs Minister, H.E. Mr. Gennady Gatilov, Deputy Foreign Minister, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Their discussions focused on global governance, Security Council reform, General Assembly revitalization, as well as current political issues, including Libya, the Middle East, Sudan and Côte d'Ivoire.
Both sides described the discussions as very constructive and substantial. The President of the General Assembly underlined his appreciation for Russia's strong commitment to the United Nations.
President Deiss also met with Ms. Tatiana Alekseyevna Golikova, the Russian Minister of Health and Social Development. They discussed health related aspects of the Millennium Development Goals, the High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS and the High-level Meeting on Non-communicable Diseases.
The President of the General Assembly was also interviewed in the current affairs programme "Spotlight" on Russia Today TV network.
