STATEMENT ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE SPOKESPERSON FOR
THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Meeting between President Deiss and President Jonathan of Nigeria;
President Deiss receives French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé;
and Ruslan Kazakbaev, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan
The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, met today with H.E. Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Both Presidents discussed the situation in West Africa, including Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire. Other topics included Security Council reform, peacekeeping and the High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS. President Deiss thanked Nigeria for its long-standing contribution to the United Nations and commitment to the work of the General Assembly.
On the same day, President Deiss met with H.E. Mr. Alain Juppé, Foreign Minister of France. They discussed the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the situation in Libya, Syria, as well as Security Council reform. President Deiss thanked Foreign Minister Juppé for the contribution of France in the context of the French presidency of the G20 to enhancing the dialogue between the G20 and the General Assembly.
President Deiss also met with H.E. Mr. Ruslan Kazakbaev, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan. The Foreign Minister briefed the President on the current political and economic situation in the country and thanked the United Nations for the support it has given to the democracy process. They also discussed issues of development and regional cooperation. Foreign Minister Kazakbaev expressed Kyrgyzstan's interest in organizing activities concerning cooperation of Mountain countries during the next session of the General Assembly.
