Background

Resolution 61/16 on “Strengthening of the Economic and Social Council” mandates a review of the implementation of the resolution in the 65th session of the General Assembly.  As a follow-up to the mandate of resolution 61/16, the President of the General Assembly has appointed H.E. The main elements of the resolution relate to the structure of the substantive session of ECOSOC, role of ECOSOC in promoting global dialogue on economic issues, the Development Co-operation Forum (DCF), the Annual Ministerial Review (AMR), ECOSOC and humanitarian emergencies, and ECOSOC and Peace Building Commission (PBC).

The report by the facilitator on the review of the implementation of resolution 61/16 on “Strengthening of the Economic and Social Council” is expected to be completed before the substantive session of ECOSOC 2011.
