United Nations High-level Meeting on Youth, 25-26 July 2011
As part of the International Year of Youth, the General Assembly held a high-level meeting on youth 25-26 July 2011, with the theme “Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding”.
The high-level meeting comprised two consecutive informal interactive thematic panel discussions on 25 July 2011 and two plenary meetings on 26 July 2011. The thematic panel discussions were chaired by Member States at the invitation of the President of the General Assembly.

Monday 25 July 2011

Opening plenary meeting: - 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Thematic panel discussion 1: Strengthening international cooperation regarding youth and enhancing dialogue, mutual understanding and active youth participation as indispensable elements towards achieving social integration, full employment and the eradication of poverty; (Concept Note) - 3 – 6 p.m.
Thematic panel discussion 2: Challenges to youth development and opportunities for poverty eradication, employment and sustainable development. (Concept Note)

Closing plenary meeting
The opening plenary meeting featured statements by the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General and an eminent person actively engaged in youth issues, and a youth representative of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, both of whom were chosen by the President of the Assembly. The Chairs of the round tables presented summaries of the discussions at the closing plenary meeting. In order to promote interactive and substantive discussions, participation in each round table included Member States, observers and representatives of entities of the United Nations system, civil society, youth organizations and the private sector.
The plenary meetings and the two thematic panels were transmitted via live webcast.
