UN TOGETHER branded events
In commemoration of International Migrants Day on 18 December 2017 in New York, IOM co-hosted a series of UN TOGETHER branded events focused on the crucial role of the arts and technology in creating understanding and dialogue about migration.
Global Migration Film Festival
The Second Global Migration Film Festival opened on 5 December and culminated on 18 December 2017, International Migrants Day. The Festival showcased films that capture the promise and migration and the unique contributions migrants make to their new communities.
Art Installation UNPACKED: Refugee Baggage
The critically acclaimed art installation UNPACKED: Refugee Baggage included a virtual reality visualization in UN languages of the exhibition and the stories behind it.

Special Representative for International Migration
On 18 December, the SRSG participated in a Facebook Live on the UN’s official Facebook account; delivered opening remarks at the third informal interactive multi-stakeholder hearing in Trusteeship Council Chamber; and took part in a panel discussion from 1730 to 1830 organized by IOM and UNICEF at UNICEF House.
The Office of the SRSG also represented in a side event organized by OHCHR, IOM and UNICEF on the human rights of children in the context of international migration from 1400 to 1530.
At the noon briefing at UN headquarters, Béla Hovy, Chief, Migration Section, Population Division of the UN Department of Social and Economic Affairs (DESA) briefed on the International Migration Report 2017, a biennial publication of DESA on the latest trends concerning international migration.
TOGETHER: Mobile app and Podcast series
IOM has developed a mobile app which taps the disruptive power of social media to stand up against anti-migrant xenophobia. The TOGETHER app was launched in NY on International Migrants Day, 18 December 2017.

Demystifying Migration: Launch of the World Migration Report 2018 and the Migration Governance Indicators
The event focused on two key initiatives with introductory remarks by Director General William Lacy Swing. The first part discussed the World Migration Report 2018. The second focus was a discussion on the process and outcomes of the MGI. Please see the flyer and concept note.

On 18 December, Mr. Béla Hovy, Chief, Migration Section, Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), briefed on the International Migration Report 2017, a biennial publication of the UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs, on the latest trends concerning international migration.
Animated videos to amplify the stories of migrants
OHCHR launched a series of animated videos to amplify the stories of migrants and their families, of the communities that welcome them and the conversations they have along the way. Please see: statement.
