CALENDAR OF EVENTS
- Throughout 2008 the UN Bookshop at UN Headquarters will hold a special display of books on human rights to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration.
- A new illustrated edition of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, produced in both English and French for children and adolescents, will be available. Co-published by DPI and publisher Hachette Gautier-Languereau, the book is illustrated by acclaimed Paris-based illustrator Eric Puybaret.

Conference: Universal Declaration of Human Rights: A Pathway for the Future
More than 450 people, including academics, university students, diplomats and representatives of local authorities, attended the event which was marked by the speech of David Roosevelt, human rights activist and grandson of President and Eleanor Roosevelt. Mr. Roosevelt underlined that the Declaration remains today one of the most important creations of the twentieth century, "and still provides a moral basis for mankind to aspire to the realization of human rights, all human rights, for all people". Awarding of “UN: 60 years of Human Rights” prize for Brazilian media
An initiative of the UN Information Centre in Rio de Janeiro, the “UN: 60 years of Human Rights” prize will be awarded to the five Brazilian journalists who have excelled in coverage of human rights related issues in the local press during the last 30 years. René Cassin Human Rights Prize 2008
The René Cassin Human Rights Prize will be given out in November 2008 by the Minister for Education. It will be an opportunity to promote the work undertaken on Human Right in schools and colleges. The laureates will be invited to participate in a gathering of Human Rights Defenders in Paris, organized by the International Federation for Human Rights. They will also be asked to participate in an open debate at the national assembly with other Human Rights Defenders, on 10 December 2008, at UNESCO Paris.

Student Conference on Human Rights
The UN Department of Public Information annual conference will focus this year on Human Rights and Climate Change. The conference will bring together students from New York, India, Canada, Trinidad, Suriname and Bahrain. Opening of Photo Exhibition: Children of War: Broken Childhood
Marking Universal Children's Day and the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, this photo exhibition on the subject of child soldiers will be opened by the Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, Ambassador Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children & Armed Conflict, Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy.
