Strengthening of the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations- Report of the Secretary-General
Description:The present report has been prepared pursuant to General Assembly Resolution 46/182 of 19 December 1991, which requested the Secretary-General to report annually to the Assembly and the Economic and Social Council on the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance. The report is also submitted in response to the requests in General Assembly resolutions 60/124 of 15 December 2005 and Economic and Social Council resolution 2005/4 of 15 July 2005 on Strengthening of the Coordination of Emergency Humanitarian Assistance of the United Nations.

This report addresses the theme of ?Strengthening the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations.? It examines some of the key improvements to humanitarian activities, including the Central Emergency Response Fund, focuses on technical proposals to strengthen local, national and regional capacities to prepare for and respond to humanitarian crises and highlights issues related to the application of humanitarian principles, and other issues of concern,
such as gender-based violence in humanitarian emergencies and chronically underfunded crises. The report ends with a set of recommendations from the Secretary-General for further strengthening the coordination of emergency humanitarian assistance of the United Nations.
