Contraceptive Use

World Contraceptive Use 2010, prepared by the United Nations Population Division, provides a comparable and up-to-date set of national data on contraceptive prevalence for almost all countries and areas of the world. It also provides estimates of unmet need for family planning.

The CD-ROM contains the latest estimates as of December 2010 in addition to trend data and supplements previous publications of the United Nations Population Division, including the CD-ROM 2009 World Contraceptive Use, with more detailed and comprehensive data.

The files Contraceptive prevalence, summary trends and Unmet need for family planning, summary trends highlight, for each country, a selection of available data for the closest year to 1985, 1995 and 2005. The file Contraceptive prevalence, regional averages presents regional and sub-regional averages for the years 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2009. Resources

In addition to the six MS Excel files, the CD-ROM includes three important resources: Metadata containing the definitions, methods of computation and the selection criteria used for the indicators presented in the data files; Documentation (the present file); and United Nations Software Licence Agreement containing the product licensing agreement. The CD-ROM launches a navigation interface upon insertion and provides direct access to these files.
