The Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination provides substantive support to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly.

A main responsibility of the Office is to support ECOSOC's Annual Ministerial Review and Development Cooperation Forum to ensure a comprehensive, qualitative review of progress in implementing the MDGs. Global preparatory meetings, regional consultations and national reviews are essential elements to this process to ensure a substantive ministerial-level review and a quality, action-oriented dialogue on development cooperation issues. ‘Youth lens’ brings development challenges into sharper focus at UN forum

3 February 2015 – The emerging United Nations-led sustainability agenda, to be crafted around a set of sustainable development goals, must be inspired by and inspiring for the world’s young people, the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) said today as he closed the Council’s annual Youth Forum with a call for young people to amplify their voices and become more involved in building “the future we want.”


'2015 is a chance to change history,' Ban tells UN Youth Forum

2 February 2015 – This generation of young people – the largest the world has ever seen – has a historic opportunity to end poverty, combat climate change, create jobs and fight injustice, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told a Youth Forum at UN Headquarters in New York this morning as he called on the participants to get involved in shaping a future sustainable development agenda.


Ebola response must include efforts to bolster health systems – UN Economic, Social Council chief

11 December 2014 – While the priority is to stop the Ebola outbreak, measures must also ensure that the emergency response is linked to longer-term efforts to strengthen health systems in those countries hit the hardest, President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) said today.
