Annual decolonization events: Registration contacts

Annual Regional Seminar - May

Individuals or civil society organizations wishing to participate at their own expense in the annual three-day regional Seminar regarding the Non-Self-Governing Territories inscribed under the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas)*, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, St. Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara), usually held in the second half of May, should submit in good time a written request to the Chair of the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) via the office of the Committee Secretary (elliotts@un.org, del-vasto@un.org; casast@un.org).

C-24 substantive session - June

Individuals or civil society organizations wishing to address at their own expense the yearly C-24 sessions in June as petitioners regarding the Non-Self-Governing Territories inscribed under the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas)*, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, St. Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara) should submit an online form by clicking here with an attachment containing a scanned copy of a letter requesting to appear as a petitioner, which must be addressed to the Chair of the C-24, specify the Non-Self-Governing Territory under which you would like to petition and be signed by hand. Requests for the C-24 June resumed session will be accepted from Monday, 23 April 2018.

General Assembly Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) - October

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) will hold its first meeting on Thursday, 4 October, at 10:00, in Conference Room 4. The proposed programme of work and timetable of the Committee is contained in document A/72/481. The Committee will begin its consideration of the cluster of items on decolonization on Monday, 8 October, at 15:00, in Conference Room 4.

Individuals or civil society organizations wishing to address at their own expense the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of the General Assembly in October as petitioners regarding the Non-Self-Governing Territories inscribed under the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples (American Samoa, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands (Malvinas)*, French Polynesia, Gibraltar, Guam, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Pitcairn, Saint Helena, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Western Sahara) should submit an online form by clicking here with an attachment containing a scanned copy of a letter requesting to appear as a petitioner, which must be addressed to the Chair of the Fourth Committee, specify the Non-Self-Governing Territory under which you would like to petition and be signed by hand.

Requests will be accepted from Wednesday, 29 August 2018 (09:00, New York time), until Thursday, 27 September 2018 (18:00, New York time).


*A dispute exists between the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concerning sovereignty over the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) (see ST/CS/SER.A/42).
