Second Preparatory Committee for UNLDC IV Conference

The second session of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries was held from Monday, 4 April to Friday, 8 April 2011, at United Nations Headquarters.

At the plenary session on Monday morning participants were updated on the preparations for the Istanbul Summit by Jarmo Viinanen ( Finland), Chair of the Preparatory Committee, Cheick Sidi Diarra, Secretary-General of the upcoming Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, Ertuğrul Apakan, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations, representing the host country, and Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations on behalf of the Global LDC Bureau.

Presentations on the different tracks were made by Anda Filip, Permanent Observer for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the Parliamentarian track, Arjun Karki, of LDC Watch on the civil society track, and Gavin Power, Deputy Director of the United Nations Global Compact Office on the private sector track.

The meeting decided to continue with informal consultations on the draft outcome document, with a view to finalizing it before the Conference. The PrepCom also adopted the draft provisional annotated agenda (with some revisions) and the draft provisional rules of procedure. The draft report of the meeting, which has been presented by the rapporteur Jean Zinsou, Permanent representative of Benin to the United Nations will be posted shortly.
