  • OSAA organized with the UNDP and Femmes Africa Solidaritẻ a high-level side event on the margins of the 58th Session on the Commission on the Status of Women on the theme, “Towards 2015 for African Women and Girls: Accelerating the Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and Defining the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the African Agenda 2063". 
  • OSAA organized with UNFPA a retreat for African officials and delegates participating in the 47th session of the Commission on Population and Development (ICPD). The retreat focused on a wide range of issues related to gender equality and women’s empowerment, including reproductive health and rights, maternal mortality, girl-child education, violence against women and girls, and access to employment and economic opportunities.

  • OSAA participated in the “High-level Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers of Women’s Affairs on Gender and Ebola" which generated concrete recommendations on practical ways to mainstream gender issues into post-Ebola recovery processes.
  • OSAA actively participated in the 16th Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa, on the theme, “UN system support to the AU’s 2015 Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063" and co-chaired the plenary session on “women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship".

2014

  • In demonstration of OSAA’s political commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, the Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa, Mr. Maged Abdelaziz, personally joined the UN-Women Solidarity Movement for Gender Equality by speaking in support of the HeForShe Campaign.
