Preparatory meetings to organize the conference, which will be the first Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) summit in Nairobi (Kenya), were held in Tokyo (Japan) on 26 August 2015.

TICAD Joint Secretariat Meeting

The preparatory meeting, which is the TICAD Joint Secretariat meeting, was attended by representatives of:

  • the Government of Japan,
  • the Office of the Special Advisor on Africa (OSAA),
  • the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),
  • African Union Commission (AUC), and
  • the World Bank.

TICAD Joint Monitoring Committee

A TICAD Joint Monitoring Committee meeting held on the same day reviewed the implementation of the outcomes from TICAD-V held in 2013. The Committee members included:

  • government representatives from Japan,
  • the African Union,
  • the New Partnership for Africa's Development Planning and Coordinating Agency (NEPAD Agency),
  • the African Diplomatic Corps in Tokyo,
  • international organizations,
  • and other donors.

Background

The first TICAD was held in 1993 after Japan took the initiative to shine the spotlight on funding development in Africa in a post-Cold War era.
