2008 NATIONAL VOLUNTARY PRESENTATIONS
On 2–3 July 2008, Belgium, Chile, Finland, Kazakhstan, Lao PDR, Luxembourg, Tanzania and the United Kingdom made National Voluntary Presentations (NVPs). The presentations provided an analysis of their progress towards the achievement of the Internationally Agreed Development Goals, including the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). The presentations were based on their national development strategy or policies and their implementation and steps they have taken to help in support of the United Nations Development Agenda.
Preparing for the presentations entailed two key activities: holding national consultative meetings to bring together national stakeholders in the review process and drafting a National Report. The goal of the presentations is to speed-up implementation by strengthening accountability for commitments.
To make examples of best practices and lessons learned by NVP countries available to a broader audience, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs launched a website on “Development Strategies that Work” in July 2008.
