The Theme for the 61st DPI/NGO Conference

Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium

Background Information:
The annual townhall meeting will provide DPI associated NGO representatives with an opportunity to present their recommendations for the theme and venue of the 61st Annual DPI/NGO Conference. Presentations from the floor will be limited to three minutes. A written proposal should accompany the oral presentation.

There will be no video screening.

Next week’s DPI/NGO Briefing, entitled, Autism: Raising Awareness, Changing Attitudes, will look at this little known and often misunderstood disease that affects so many children worldwide. Invited speakers include: Ms. Suzanne Wright, Co-Founder, Autism Speaks; Dr. Elias A. Zerhouni, Director, National Institutes of Health, U.S.; Dr. W. Ian Lipkin, Greene Infectious Disease Laboratory; and Mr. Eric Olson, Focal Point on the Family, Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Ban names Ibrahim Gambari as new head of joint UN-AU force in Darfur

Aid lifeline to scores of thousands in eastern Chad threatened by banditry, UN reports

UN peacekeepers plant trees in Côte d’Ivoire to fight climate change
30 November – United Nations peacekeepers planted nearly 600 trees in a botanical garden in Côte d’Ivoire over the weekend, a small but symbolic step in a project to combat climate change that has already surpassed its target of 7 billion trees – one for every person in the world. FULL STORY >>

UN launches $7 billion appeal for humanitarian work next year

Ban deplores attack on UN helicopter in DR Congo
