Many opportunities abound between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to exchange information with others. These include a variety of dialogue, briefing and networking activities. The starting and ending times are staggered, leaving time for lunch and for participating in one midday activity each day.

CREATIVE CONNECTIONS

1999 will be the UN International Year of Older Persons. The theme of the year is "Towards a Society for All Ages. " The NGO Committee on Aging will lead this dialogue which looks at the connection between all sectors and generations of society in different cultures.

An expert in this field will introduce a discussion about the process, difficulties and resources involved in retraining workers and converting military industries to peace time applications. A dialogue on what conference participants are doing or can do to facilitate this process will follow.

THE NGO ROLE IN CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Knowledgeable NGOs will lead a discussion on the role NGOs can play and have played in helping to manage conflict by bringing people together and by promptly reporting signs of a developing conflict. Problems encountered by humanitarian aid organizations will also be discussed.
