50th Annual DPI/NGO Conference
This year we celebrate the fiftieth year of partnership between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations. The conference comes at a time in history when the importance and influence of non-state actors is expanding. Thus, the theme of the conference this year is "Building Partnerships". The goal is to focus on the ways in which inter-governmental organizations, national governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and the business community can work together to promote peace and security, economic and social well-being, human rights and the rule of law.
During the course of the conference, we will review milestones in the relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations. We will look at the best examples of volunteering and socially-responsible projects. The participants will share ideas on how to make a difference in their own communities through their work, or through networking with other organizations and looking for innovative partnerships. We will examine how new technologies and communications can facilitate the process of global cooperation at a level that has been previously impossible. The format of the conference will allow participants to meet and exchange ideas during panel discussion groups and, also, in a less formal setting during lunch hours.
The 50th Annual Non-Governmental Organizations Conference is organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) in cooperation with the Executive Committee of Non-Governmental Organizations associated with DPI.
